Who is Goku?

Goku is the hero of Dragon Ball, the manga Akira Toriyama started in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1984 and the anime franchise that grew out of it. He was born Kakarot on Planet Vegeta, sent to Earth as a baby, and raised by a mountain hermit after a head injury wiped out his mission. He spends the rest of the series getting stronger.

His design is one of the most recognisable in anime, and one of the easiest to colour: an orange gi over a dark blue undershirt, wristbands and boots, black spiky hair, and — for most of the original series — a tail.

What makes him a good subject for a colouring page is that his look changes across the story. A base-form Goku and an Ultra Instinct Goku are the same character in completely different palettes, so you get a lot of range out of one cast.

Goku's forms and what colours they take

FormDebutWhat changes on the page
BaseDragon Ball (1984)Black hair, orange gi, dark blue undershirt and boots
Great ApeDragon BallGiant brown ape; only appears while he still has his tail
Kaio-kenDBZ, Saiyan SagaRed aura over the base form; a technique, not a new body
Super SaiyanDBZ, Frieza SagaHair turns gold and stands up, eyes turn teal
Super Saiyan 2DBZ, Cell SagaSame gold hair, plus a lightning aura
Super Saiyan 3DBZ, Buu SagaVery long gold hair, no eyebrows
Super Saiyan GodDragon Ball SuperSlimmer build, red hair, red aura
Super Saiyan BlueDragon Ball SuperBlue hair, calm blue aura
Ultra InstinctDragon Ball SuperSilver hair and eyes, pale aura

For colouring, the hair is the part that matters. Everything else stays roughly the same shade across forms, so hair and aura are what tell one page from another.

Goku coloring pages FAQ

What colour should Super Saiyan hair be?

Not one flat yellow. Use a pale cream near the centre of each spike and a deeper gold along the edges, then leave a thin white gap between spikes. A single yellow across the whole area flattens the shape and the hair stops reading as spiky.

For Ultra Instinct, swap gold for light grey with a cool blue-grey shadow. Home printers cannot reproduce silver, so grey plus white highlights is the closest you will get.

Why does Goku look different from page to page?

Because his design changes with the story. Kid Goku from the original Dragon Ball has a tail and a smaller build; the Dragon Ball Z era Goku is taller with the same orange gi; Dragon Ball Super adds the god forms. If a page looks like a different character, check the hair — that is usually the giveaway.

Are the drawings identical to the anime?

No. Each page is redrawn as clean line art rather than traced from animation frames, so proportions and small costume details can differ. The silhouette, hair shape and outfit colours are kept so the character is still immediately recognisable.

Are these official Dragon Ball coloring pages?

No. These are fan-made coloring pages. Dragon Ball, Goku and all related characters belong to Akira Toriyama, Shueisha and Toei Animation. These pages are not licensed or endorsed by them and are not official merchandise. They are free printable fan art for personal and classroom use.
